INSTRUCTION

Week 1

During the first day of class, Mr. Martin briefed us about the projects throughout this semester. Then, Mr. Martin taught us about editing videos in Adobe Premiere Pro, and we were required to download the footage from google drive for this exercise.
  1. Create a new Premiere Pro Project
  2. Import footage
  3. Double-click on the first video or drag to insert
  4. Arrange shots on the timeline in the proper order
  5. Export video

For exercise 1, I inserted the footage according to the numbers in ascending order. But in exercise 2, I needed to find the original video and rearrange the footage as the order of the footage had been disrupted.

We were also required to share our understanding of Tiktok and our favorite videos. My understanding aboutTiktok is a popular app for people to upload short videos. It allows users to create any content, including dancing, singing, entertaining, cooking, and traveling.

Although I haven't used TikTok myself, I occasionally come across some short videos on Youtube shorts and Instagram Reels.
  1. Cooking Asmr: This video was made by Bayashi, it's a youtube short but he also had an account on Tiktok. I like this video because he edited the sound of the cooking process into a beat rhythm, which was very satisfying to watch and hear. At the same time, his food always looks so good to me.
  2. Entertain: It's a reel on Instagram I saw this video a few weeks ago, and it was also uploaded to Tiktok. I still loved to watch it as it was very relatable to my current life. The editing was cool by linking all the shots, which made the video very smooth to watch.

Week 2

During this week, Mr. Martin taught us about different shooting frames. Then, we are required to do a shooting exercise.
  • Low-angle Wide shot
  • Frontal Medium Close-Up (soft background)
  • Frontal Medium Shot (soft background)
  • Extreme Close-Up shot
  • Side angle Medium shot (soft background)
  • 3/4 angling Medium Close-Up shot (soft background)
  • Close-Up shot
  • Eye-Level Medium-Wide shot

After the shooting, I edited the videos to 4 - 5 seconds and combined them together into a video. I followed the tutorial for adding captions for each frame.

Inserted the text and shapes, reduced the opacity of shapes, and applied transition effects on the text and shape.

Video Outcome:

Editing Exercise:

We were given a folder with different scenes, the difference between this exercise and the previous exercises is we needed to trim the videos provided. As the scenes are not in proper order, I need to watch the original video "Lalin" and arrange the scenes.

From the tutorial, I knew that by clicking 'I' for in-point and clicking 'O' as out-point, then I could insert the part that I wanted.

Week 3

In this particular week, we learned about storytelling in film, which is 3 act structure. For this week exercise, we needed to do 3 act structure exercises from the video Lalin and Guang.

Week 4

We are required to answer the following questions provided by the lecturer and find the answer using Chat GPT, then verified the answers with Google.

What is color correction?

Color correction is the process of adjusting and balancing the colors of an image or video to achieve a desired look or to correct any color issues that may be present in the original footage. During the color correction, it involves tweaking things like exposure, contrast, and white balance and ensuring that important hues like skin tones are accurately represented. The goal of color correction is to create a final product that looks true-to-life as possible, while also achieving the desired creative effect.

What is color grading?

Color grading is the process of adjusting and enhancing the colors and tones in an image or video to create a specific visual style or mood. It can involve adjusting the overall color balance, changing the hue and saturation of individual colors, adding or removing specific colors, adjusting the brightness and contrast, and using various filters and effects to achieve the desired result. It is important as it can significantly impact the final look and feel of a project.

What is the difference between color grading and color correction?

Color correcting is the process of correcting colors in a video or a film as a way to get them back to what they should look like for the project. Color grading is the process of grading colors in a video or film as a way to give them a stylistic look.

Color correction focuses on correcting any color issues in the original footage, color grading is a creative process that involves manipulating the colors and tones to achieve a specific look or feel.

Are both color correction and colour grading necessary while editing video? Or just do one of them?

Yes, both of them are necessary while editing the video. Color correction is the first step in the process of color grading and involves correcting any technical color issues in the original footage. Once the footage has been properly color-corrected, color grading can then be used to apply a specific creative look or feel to the video. Both processes are essential for achieving a professional-looking final product that meets the creative vision of the project.
