INSTRUCTION
Week 3
Group Task:
In this class, we need to present an explanation of Miller's Law (Chunking)
and provide an example of how to utilize this technique in terms of visual
delivery for each of these approaches: a well-designed infographic, UI/UX,
web, app, games, etc.
Slides: Miller's Law (Chunking)
Exercise 3: Animation Chart
During week 3, we were required to learn to animate a chart from the video
tutorial. In the video, I learned about animating pie charts, donut charts,
and bar charts.
Slides: Wk 3 Motion Graphic Chart

Figure 1.1 Pie Chart
From the tutorial video, I did a simple pie chart. Then, we were assigned to
create a motion graphic chart with the information given. I was required to
do a donut chart and the topic was about the level of stress experienced
among college students.
Information of Donut Chart: https://whattobecome.com/blog/college-student-stress-statistics/
Figure 1.2 Trim Path ( Donut Chart )
I set the time of completing the chart as 2 seconds, and the end of the trim
path of four shapes was 100%, 70.5%, 50.8%, and 1.5%.
Figure 1.3 Trim Path ( Lines )
Figure 1.4 Animation on Number at the center
I learned this technique from the link given: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgxGPlNxgtg
Figure 1.5 Texts
I applied scale on the percentage numbers and body texts.
Title: Tw Cen MT Condensed Extra Bold, 65px
Body Text: Tw Cen MT Regular, 50px
Percentage: Tw Cen MT Regular, 70px

Week 4
Group Task:
We were required to present an explanation on the topic of Manuel Lima's 9
Directives Manifesto and do also present one good designed infographic that
best illustrates the 9 directives for information visualizations and one
poorly designed infographic that failed to address the directives.
Exercise 5: Vector/Character Animation
We learned about vector and character animation during the week 4 class by
following the tutorial and slides given. Mr. Martin also taught us on doing
the wiggle effect and puppet position pin tool.
We were assigned to create an animation with the files given. I was required
to do "A", in this exercise, we must apply the bounce effect, motion blur,
easy ease the keyframes, and wiggle or puppet position pin tool.
Figure 2.1 Separated Layers
After taking a look at the graphics given, I thought of applying wiggle
animation is more suitable. So, I separated the graphics into different
layers and imported them into After Effect.
Figure 2.2 Car
Firstly, I animated the car by adjusting the position from out of the screen
to the position the characters are in.
Figure 2.3 Woman
For the appearance of the woman, I adjusted the position and applied the
bounce effect and motion blur to it. Then, I planned on doing a waving
movement on her hand and the board, so I moved the anchor point to her
shoulder and adjusted the rotation from about 0 to 10.
Figure 2.4 Man
The animation of the man was quite similar to the woman, with just a little
adjustment in the amplitude of rotation of the hand.

Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography
During week 2 classes, Mr. Martin taught us to do a simple kinetic
typography on the song "rock star".
Figure 3.1 Lyrics
Firstly, insert a new solid layer as the background colour, then type out
the lyrics and arrange them to the layout that I wanted.
Figure 3.2 Animate the lyrics
Adjust the time of appearance of each text, select all of the texts, parent
and link them to a new animation layer. Also, apply 3D layer on the texts.
At the animation layer, I can animate the text by setting keyframes at the
position layer.

Group Project:
Before beginning the project, we were required to find art direction. Below
were some kinetic typography from Youtube:
It's a kinetic typography that was posted on Youtube by Just Denny
Motions. For project 2, my group decided to choose a song with not very
strong rhythm, so I think this video can be used as one of my references.
2. Price Tag
This is also a kinetic typography video on Youtube posted by Mingu Kang. I
like this video because the transitions are smooth and some graphics are
interesting to watch.
We had a discussion on what songs we wanted to use for this project, since
there was different opinion, they set up a poll to vote. Our final decision
would be "As It Was". We break the lyrics into seven parts and picked which
part we wanted to animate.
Figure 4.1 Ideation
After listening to the whole song, since the opening music was a bit too
long, so I think can put in an animation of the CD player and follow with
the music beat.
During week 3, we had a discussion on the font and colour scheme for this
project. The font we would be using were Singly Linked Font and Comic
Gecko Font.

According to the feedback given, I rearranged the texts from the second line in a safe margin.

Feedback
If there is any I could think of properly the font size and position. If possible please check with the safe margin, and make sure the presenting text is within the safe margin.
From the exercises, I have learned a lot about animation techniques in After Effects. This brings great help to me in Project 1 Animation and the Final Project. During our group work, while doing kinetic typography, I think we were lack of communication to discuss the project together, so the outcome seems to be a little different. After being given advice from the lecturer, we started to have meetings to decide on our colour scheme and text font. We started to have more interaction with each other in the group.
