Final Project: One-Page Introduction

Week 11&12

Based on the 3-Act Structure that I wrote, since the story happened in the restroom, so for the first few panels will be the restroom background.

Figure 1.1 Reference

While I was reading Detective Conan's Comic, I found out that I could use this as a reference for my comic.

Figure 1.2 Brush Option

I created a calligraphic brush and set the size to 1pt for drawing out the lines as the original option brushes are too thick.

Figure 1.3 Sketch

After drawing out each of the panels according to the reference, I rearranged them in an easily understandable visual sequence. I added the water dripping panel because I am thinking to animate that water drip and it also indicates that the place is very quiet, with only the sound of water dropping.

The next panel that I wanted to draw is the protagonist hiding in the last toilet room after escaping from the monster.

Figure 1.4 Sketch

I found a side pose from another manga as a reference. I drew the protagonist leaning on the door to show that she is tired after being chased.

Figure 1.5 Sketch

I zoomed closer to her face to show her expression of terrified and tiredness.

Figure 1.6 Sketch

The image on the left was drawn by an artist on Twitter and I think that I could use it as a reference for the last panel. Since there were still some empty spaces, so I thought of what led the protagonist to cover her mouth quickly and in fear.

Figure 1.7 Sketch

I decided to draw the monster that stepped into the toilet and the protagonist noticed it.

Week 13

Figure 2.1 Changes made

Based on the feedback, I redrew the monster leg's panel and decrease the size of the panels on the left.

Figure 2.2 References

Before colouring the comic, I found some colour references from Pinterest. I used the first image as a colour reference for my background.

Figure 2.3 Background Coloured

I  used a pen tool to draw out the shapes and fill in the colour, and used a brush tool for the details.

Week 14

For the protagonist's colour, I didn't reuse the image above because she is in the last toilet room which is darker.

Figure 3.1 Reference

Figure 3.2 Protagonist Coloured

After I coloured them, I found that they are hard to see, so I decided to make the background dimmer and changed the white background to black. I also added frames for the lower part and the monster part since I needed to move part by part of the comic to the slides.

Figure 3.3 Differences

Figure 3.4 Dialogue

I added some dialogue and effects in the comic.

Animation:

The last part of the project is animating one or more panels from the comic. I decided to animate the water dropping from the tap.

Figure 4.1 Animate Progress

I duplicate the water tap and then drew the water drops one by one. I exported the images to photoshop to create the animation.

Figure 4.2 Animate in Photoshop

I also adjusted the timing of each frame so that the animation won't be weird like too fast or too slow.

Figure 4.3 Final Outcome

Figure 4.4 Animation attempt of another panel

Besides that panel, I think of doing the animation of the protagonist breathing. But after exporting the images to photoshop and created to a GIF, it was quite stiff as it's only two frames. So, I decided to try the next panel.

Figure 4.5 Animation attempt of another panel 2

Figure 4.6 Animate in Photoshop

I animate with a little movement of the shoulder, hair, and breath that was spitted out.

Final Submission:

Feedbacks

Week 12
In the monster's panel, can present the feet of the protagonist and monster which show the sizes between them.

Week 13
Didn't have much progress.

Week 14
In the last panel, the protagonist is a bit dark, which can add some lighting to her like the upper panels.

Reflection

Throughout this project, I had a lot of fun creating a comic on my own and learned some skills from the lectures. Besides, I also find that time management is quite important to keep my work in progress because the submission date is quite close and I needed time to find colour references and try different colour on the protagonist that suited the background.
