Final Project: Animatic Storyboard
The objective of this project was to produce a 1 minute animatics storyboard based on the proposed story ideas developed in Project 1. We needed to prepare a thumbnail drawing, storyboard, and animatic.
Thumbnail drawing:
Figure 1.1
The story that I wrote was a girl traumatized in an accident which made her
afraid to fly, so I thought of drawing this part as the beginning of the
story. The little fairy was hanging around with her parent happily, flying
around. Then, a strong wind blown her away, she began to fall down to the
ground and landed on a place with dried leaves. Her vision started to become
blurry.
Figure 1.2
Continuing to the next part, I decided to make the girl woke up from her sleep
as the previous panels were all her childhood bad memory. After she woke up,
she got ready to go out. During the walk, she met her neighbour and also heard
someone chatting.
Figure 1.3
The girl hid behind the bushes to hear their conversation. The people were
someone the girl knew before and they wanted to hang out at night but leaving
the girl behind, they also made jokes about her. The girl was emotionally hurt by
them, so she ran back home to find help from her sister.
Storyboard:
The feedback given from Sir was the composition was not correct, I needed to
improve the angles and composition of some panels.
Figure 1.4
In the beginning, I made some changes like adding a view of the forest, then
slowly moving downwards and two fairies showed up. They waved their hands
calling the protagonist to come forward. Suddenly, a wind blew, it became
stronger and caused her to be blown away.
My lecturer suggested that I should change the scene of her fainting away, so I
zoomed closer scene to the protagonist's face of her being scared. When she
opened her eyes again, she realized it was a dream about her bad memory.
Figure 1.6
The camera zoomed out from her face to show that she was on her bed. A cut
scene to the protagonist opening the door and getting ready to do her work. During the
walk, her feelings were bad after the bad memory went back. When she passed
through the bushes, she heard someone talking, she decided to find out who.
She hid in the bushes and listened to their conversation.
Figure 1.7 Reference
I used this reference as the background scene in which the protagonist was hiding
in the bushes.
Figure 1.8
During the consultation, my lecturer gave me feedback about adding a bubble
box to the conversation with an image. I also added a few scenes with
different angles of the protagonist running away sadly. When she arrived
home, she asked for her sister's help to overcome her fear of flying.
Figure 1.9
Above was the image reference where I applied in the scene of the protagonist
talking to her sister.
Figure 1.10
Figure 1.11
So, on the next page of storyboard, her sister promised to help her and they
headed to a higher place. Her sister told her to jump right away from the
tower. She was forced to flap her wings during the fall. Finally, she
succeeded in overcoming her fear.
The story that I wrote in Project 1 was a little bit longer, but since I only
needed to do 1 minute, I decided to shorten the process.
Storyboard:
Animatic:
After I had finished the storyboard, I began with the next step, which was
doing an animatic storyboard.
Figure 1.12
The images above were the whole story with more detailed characters,
background, and some actions like walking, running, and many more.
Figure 1.13
I imported the frames to Premiere Pro and adjusted their speed while playing
the video, to make sure that it wasn't too drag or quick.
Besides, I also added sound effects to the animatic. For example, the ambiance
of each scene's environment, the movement of bushes, walking steps, wind, and
more. The dialogue was recorded by me and my relative.

FEEDBACK
Week 9
In the part where the character falls and wakes up from the dream, some scenes can be adjusted since previously she slowly closes her eyes and next up she wakes up in shock, which seems a little weird. There is also no need to show quite a lot of hands in each panel. The composition and angle can be improved more.
Week 11
The opening scene looks good, it's very detailed but draw a storyboard first. The composition is good.
Week 12
The part when she was walking should make her look sad because she had a nightmare last night. When the character is talking, can add a bubble box with images about what they are talking about.
Week 13
Before it ends, the scenario that she is looking at can change to the view that was shown at the beginning. The panel of her waving hands to her sister can be deleted, and straight away approaches her sister.
Week 14
The animatic looks good, keep on progressing.
