INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1: Audio Dubbing

In this task, we were provided a short video without any sound and our task was to add sound effects and dialogue to the video. Mr. Martin suggest us some websites where we could find sound effects to apply. The sound effects that I found were all from Freesound.

List of different scenes

I watched the short clips and began to analyze which sound effects should apply in that scene. I listed it in an Excel sheet, which I could refer back to or customize again.

Scene 1

Sound Effect Applied:
Truck Engine, Car Moving, Car Break, Opening car door, running steps

Ambiance:
Street Sound

I imported the downloaded video and audio, I started adding sound effects to it. While I was applying them, I needed to replay quite a few times to make sure the timing was the same with the actions of it. Besides, I also needed to reduce the volume of some audio because they were too loud comparing with others.

Scene 2

Sound Effect Applied:
Running up the stairs

Ambiance:
Interior Hall

As the scene happened in the interior, the sound steps of running up the stairs should be softer and stepping on a wooden stairs.

Scene 3

Sound Effect Applied:
Inserting coin, Dailing phone

Ambiance:
Street sound

As this scene was in a telephone booth, I was not sure how to make the sound in a hermetic space, so what I did was reduce the street sound.

Scene 4

Sound Effect Applied:
Opening the door, Walking steps

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Dialogue:
What are you looking for? (Man)
Mom's glasses. (Girl)
Just there. (Man)

Other than applying sound effects, we also needed to dub the character's dialogue on our own. There wasn't any problem for me to dub the girl's voice, but for the man, I watched some tutorial videos on Youtube to learn to change the voice tone.

There were two parts to the walking step sound, the first few steps were walking on a wooden floor, and the other time would be the girl walking on the map, so the sound would be softer.

Scene 5

Sound Effect Applied:
Dailing the phone

Ambiance:
Street sound

Scene 6

Sound Effect Applied:
Walking steps

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Dialogue:
Sigh (Girl)

Scene 7

Sound Effect Applied:
Dailing the phone

Ambiance:
Street sound

Scene 8

Sound Effect Applied:
Walking steps, Phone ringing, Moving chair

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Dialogue:
Let me answer the phone. (Man)
No, I'll answer the phone. (Girl)

Scene 9

Sound Effect Applied:
Beep Sound

Ambiance:
Car Interior

I decided to use the beep sound because I thought the bomb was like a machine with a turning-on sound. I didn't know what sound effects I could add other than the beep sound.

Scene 10

Sound Effect Applied:
Tearing the tape

Ambiance:
Car Interior

Scene 11

Sound Effect Applied:
Walking steps, Truck engine, Car moving

Ambiance:
Street sound

The walking steps sound effect was different from the previous one because the man was walking on the road with boots. So, I did found a walking sound with boots and on the road.

Scene 12

Dialogue:
Hello? Hello! (Girl)

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Scene 13

Sound Effect Applied:
Hanging up the phone

Ambiance:
Street sound

Dialogue:
Hello! (Girl from phone)

In this scene, the girl was talking on the phone, so I also did find a tutorial video to adjust the sound that heard like from the phone.

Scene 14

Dialogue:
Hello (Girl)

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Scene 15

Sound Effect Applied:
Running, Car moving

Ambiance:
Street sound

Scene 16

Sound Effect Applied:
Tape tearing

Ambiance:
Car Interior

It was hard to think of what sound effect I could apply for this scene, so I searched for inserting clicking sound, the results showed me an inserting battery sound, which I think it will be find to put it in.

Scene 17

Sound Effect Applied:
Walking steps

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Scene 18

Sound Effect Applied:
Clicking sound

Ambiance:
Interior Room

Scene 19

Sound Effect Applied:
Running steps

Ambiance:
Street sound

Scene 20

Sound Effect Applied:
Running steps, Knocking on windows

Ambiance:
Street sound

Dialogue:
Stop! (Man A)
Aboard! Aboard! (Man B)

I had a problem adjusting the tone of the voice record, which I tried quite a lot of times to do it. I am also not good at acting, so from the final outcome, it didn't show the hurriedness of the people.

Scene 21

Sound Effect Applied:
Explosion, Window glass shattered

Ambiance:
Street sound

Scene 22

Sound Effect Applied:
Glass fell to the ground, crowd shocked

Ambiance:
Street sound

Other than street sounds of people talking, I wanted to add some sound effects of people freaking out after the glass fell onto the ground.
