Task: Project 1 - Vormator Challenge

Instruction

Vormator is the ultimate challenge of your creativity: the aim of the project is to give each student the chance to show their ability to create a stunning piece with limited means.

Each person will get the exact same set of shapes. With these shapes, you are challenged to create your own unique design, within the limitations provided in the Rulebook. Designers are thus challenged to create a unique piece within a strict set of rules. It all comes down to pure skills and creativity in this project.

What exactly are you allowed to do and what isn’t allowed with the Elements? The following rules have to be followed when creating your artwork: You are allowed to rotate, flip and duplicate the Elements You have to use all the Elements Scaling is allowed, but proportionally, so skewing or free transform. You add, subtract, intersect, and group elements as you see fit the use of color is unrestricted; you can create your own color schemes (e.g. use adobe Color)You are allowed to use gradients, elements may be filled, and the use of strokes is allowed you are allowed to use filters or effects (e.g. drop shadows)

Week 2

I downloaded the image given and redrew the shapes with the pen tool in illustrator.

Figure 1.1 Shapes

We are required to create a monster by only using the shapes above.

Inspiration:

Figure 1.2 Inspiration from Monster Inc.

Figure 1.3 First Monster

I duplicated the shapes and created the monster. For the horns, arms, and legs part, I used the shape "Wrust", divided the shapes from the pathfinder, and retained the shape that I wanted.

Week 3

During the lecture lesson, I learned about the gradient effect.

Figure 2.1 Work that I have done in class

Besides, I also learned that the gradient effects can darken the images.

Figure 2.2 Gradient Effect

I added the gradient at the shading part, and lower the opacity so that the colour of the monster can be seen.

Final Submission:

Reflection

Throughout this task, I am more familiar with Illustrator, I get to learn how to use the pen tool, knife tool, pathfinder, gradient, and many other techniques. It was a fun and interesting task because I get to use my creativity to create a monster with only 8 shapes provided.
